Sungwon Kim

 

Sungwon Kim is a guitarist, composer, & producer based in the NYC area.

He graduated from Berklee College of Music (Magna Cum Laude, recipient of numerous awards and scholarships), Musicians Institute, and Los Angeles Music Academy (Recipient of scholarship). He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Jazz Studies at NYU Steinhardt. (Recipient of scholarship) 

He has studied with renowned guitarists such as Ted Greene, John Stowell, Jimmy Wyble, Scott Henderson, Larry Koonse, Tim Miller, Ross Bolton, Adam Rogers, Lage Lund, Peter Bernstein, Mick Goodrick, and John Scofield. 

Among others that Sungwon has collaborated with are Valerie Simpson (Ashford and Simpson, Marvin Gaye), Mark Walker (Michael Brecker, Paquito D"Rivera), Jonathan Bernstein (Julliard Drama Division), David Fiuczynsky (Hiromi, Jack Dejohnette), Talley Sherwood (Grammy winning engineer, Tina Turner), Jimmy Wyble (Jazz Legend), David Glasser (Grammy winning engineer), John Blackwell (Prince, D'Angelo) and James Sampliner (Musical Legally Blonde), George Garzone (Dave Weckl, John Patitucci), Terry Lyne Carrington (Herbie Hancock).

In addition, he had a fortunate opportunity to perform for the legendary guitarist Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin.

Currently, he is playing for musical 'Wicked' on Broadway in NYC as substitute guitarist.
